Physicists Coalition D.C. Engagement Days
About the D.C. Engagement Days
Since 2024, the Physicists Coalition for Nuclear Threat Reduction has hosted Washington, D.C. Engagement Days as a flagship advocacy event, bringing together physical scientists and engineers to engage with policymakers and reduce nuclear weapons threats in the United States, and beyond. Meetings with scientist-constituents have proven to be one of the most effective ways to influence decision-makers, and Coalition members have been powerful advocates for nuclear threat reduction on Capitol Hill and by engaging key actors in the U.S. administration.
Each year, the Coalition sets its policy priorities based on its advocacy strategy and the Congressional legislative calendar. Scientist-activists receive training and support to familiarize themselves with these priorities, as well as on how to engage Congress, enabling them to confidently and effectively communicate with their elected officials and Congressional staff.
Members of the Physicists Coalition meet Congressional staff on April 16, 2024.
How to Participate
Physical scientists who are members of the Physicists Coalition for Nuclear Threat Reduction, can sign up to attend D.C. Engagement Days, early each year during the registration process. Scientist-activists are required to participate in the training process leading up to the event, and during D.C. Days to be eligible for participation.
